Roles and Responsibilities

The Summer Camp Intern is responsible for supporting Camp Counselors and
assisting the Camp Director in planning, leading, and implementing enriching programs
and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for
the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in
his/her group.

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

● Assist with preparing weekly camp materials and activity supplies
● Assist with inventory of supplies and restocking
● Support counselors during crafts, STEM challenges, and games
● Encourage participation and positive camper interactions
● Help supervise campers during transitions, lunch, and free play
● Provide support to campers who may need extra help with activities
● Help with camper check-in and check-out
● Assist with organizing registration lists and attendance
● Help track daily camper attendance
● Prepare materials for upcoming camps
● Assist with camp setup and cleanup each day
● Help maintain organized activity spaces
● Assist the Camp Director with daily logistics
● Assist with camp evaluation surveys
● Help photograph camps for marketing/social media (with permission)
● Organize camp supply inventory system

Requirements:

● Junior, senior, or recent graduate in Education or related undergraduate program
or graduate student in Education, Museum Studies, or related field
● Interest in working with both children and adults in a museum environment
● Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to take direction and work in a team environment
● Ability to independently complete tasks
● Detail-oriented and organized
● Enjoys working in an animated and multi-faceted environment
● Background check required

Schedule:

● 35-40 hours a week, 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday,
● $15 per hour
● Camps run June – August with Mid-May employment start date

 

Job Description: Marketing and Volunteer Associate

                     Hours:     Part time; 20-24 hours per week

Job Summary:

The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum seeks a Marketing and Volunteer Associate with a passion for children and children’s education.  This important team member is key to community awareness for the Museum.  Goals for this position include raising awareness through marketing, advertising, and social media; as well as performing team duties within the Museum and interacting with guests. This position will also work within a team to manage our community presence including our website.  The candidate should be creative, energetic, results-oriented, and a strong team member. This position will also work to grow our volunteer program including presentations to local community groups for recruitment.  They will then be the key team member to coordinate volunteer orientation, background checks, scheduling and appreciation. This team member will be a key member of the staff that recruits, trains, schedules and support our CIT’s during the summer camp season.  The successful candidate will be friendly and an effective communicator with a strong work ethic, and the ability to excel under pressure and in a variety of venues. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position serves as a key team member of the museum.
