What is Science? Where is Science? Who is Science? Science is a process of discovery and a basic exploration of “how we know what we know” that
happens in our everday activities. According to a recent National Science Board poll two-thirds of us do not understand what science is or how it is conducted.

COPUS, coalition on the public understanding of science, has deemed 2009 the Year of Science in hopes to network organizations, museums, media,
educators, and businesses with a goal of providing the greater public with a better understanding of the nature of science and its value to society.
The Discovery Museum has joined COPUS, and will be planning an entire Year of Science in 2009. Monthly themes for the 2009 Year of Science are as follows:

January - Process & Nature of Science; Communicating Science
February - Evolution
March - Physics and Technology
April - Energy Resources
May - Sustainability and the Environment
June - Oceans and Water
July - Astronomy
August - Weather and Climate
September - Biodiversity and Conservation
October - Geosciences and Planet Earth
November - Chemistry
December - Science and Health

Each month, the Discovery Museum will explore a different area of science with our visitors. There will be special programs at each of our First Friday events that are FREE for everyone, new exhibits that will give our visitors a taste of what’s to come in the new Museum, quarterly outdoor movie nights, and a day dedicated to exploring science on the fourth Saturday of each month. Please join us in 2009 for a year long celebration of science!
